Softball Game Preview: Brick Memorial Mustangs vs. Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs

The Brick Memorial Mustangs will head out on the road to square off against the Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs at 4:15 p.m. on Monday. Brick Memorial's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Rumson-Fair Haven's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Friday, Brick Memorial came up short against Point Pleasant Boro and fell 5-2.

Carly Hobbs made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Jocelyn Melendez, who went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Rumson-Fair Haven came into Thursday's matchup having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Keansburg on Thursday as they made off with a 14-2 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by ten runs or more this season.

Mia Missig made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Evelyn (Evie) Chubrik was incredible, going 2-for-3 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Jessie Martinelli was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and two runs.

Rumson-Fair Haven always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Brick Memorial's loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-4. As for Rumson-Fair Haven, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 4-6.
