Softball Game Preview: Marshall Mavericks vs. Whitehouse Wildcats

Marshall is 1-7 against Whitehouse since February of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Marshall Mavericks will welcome the Whitehouse Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. The contest will give Marshall their first taste of in-conferenceaction this season.

Marshall lost 11-5 to Lufkin on Tuesday. The Mavericks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Addi Watkins and Maggie Pringle did some serious damage despite the final result: Watkins went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI, while Pringle scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Watkins is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: she's snagged at least one every time she's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Whitehouse entered their tilt with Mt. Pleasant on Tuesday with six consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with seven. They were the clear victor by a 14-1 margin over the Tigers. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matches by ten runs or more this season.

Whitehouse let Analee Becerra and Larkin Jones run wild. Becerra scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Jones scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave Jones a new career-high in RBI (three). Laney Crawford was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

Whitehouse's victory bumped their record up to 12-6. As for Marshall, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-5.

Marshall might still be hurting after the 16-1 loss they got from Whitehouse in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Marshall avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
