Soccer Game Preview: Santa Ana vs. Godinez Fundamental

The Santa Ana Saints are taking a road trip to take on the Godinez Fundamental Grizzlies at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Santa Ana's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 3-0 margin over Valencia. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Saints' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Tigers are ranked 30th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Godinez Fundamental, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They came out on top against Fullerton by a score of 3-1 on Wednesday. The score was all tied up 1-1 at the break, but the Grizzlies were the better team in the second half.

They hit Fullerton with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Brian Manriquez, Sebastian Mejia, and Dominic Resendiz.

Santa Ana has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-6-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those eight matches. As for Godinez Fundamental, their win bumped their record up to 11-4-4.

Santa Ana skirted past Godinez Fundamental 1-0 when the teams last played two weeks ago. The rematch might be a little tougher for Santa Ana since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
