Basketball Recap: Millard West Comes Up Short

Millard West was the 65-50 winner over Elkhorn South when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Millard West Wildcats took a 74-68 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Elkhorn South Storm. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Friday (58), the Wildcats still had to take the loss.

Despite the loss, Millard West still got an impressive performance from Reece Carson, who almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine boards. Carson is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Cade Walker, who dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds.

Even though they lost, Millard West was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Lincoln Schwarz was his usual excellent self, going 6 for 8 en route to 19 points and seven assists for Elkhorn South. Those seven assists gave Schwarz a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Davis Eickman, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 16 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Millard West and nudges their season record down to 5-9. As for Elkhorn South, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 5-10 record this season.

Millard West will take on Bellevue West at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Millard West is facing Bellevue West at the right time seeing as Bellevue West is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Elkhorn South, they will face off against Buena Vista at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Elkhorn South is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63 points per game this season.
