Basketball Game Preview: Sandy Creek Cougars vs. Howells-Dodge Jaguars

A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Sandy Creek Cougars take on the Howells-Dodge Jaguars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday... Sandy Creek is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games.

While Sandy Creek didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-18), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They simply couldn't be stopped on Saturday as they easily beat Doniphan-Trumbull 54-22. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Cardinals are ranked 234th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Howells-Dodge hadn't done well against Humphrey-Lindsay recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Howells-Dodge managed a 54-49 win over Humphrey-Lindsay.

Sandy Creek's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.0 points per game. As for Howells-Dodge, the win got them back to even at 4-4.

Sandy Creek might still be hurting after the 46-24 defeat they got from Howells-Dodge in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. Can Sandy Creek avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
