Softball Recap: Vel Phillips Memorial Comes Up Short

Vel Phillips Memorial dropped their record down to 6-5 on Tuesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 12-2 to the Middleton Cardinals. Having soared to a lofty 23 runs in the game before, the Spartans couldn't push the score so high this time.

Vel Phillips Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Nev Seal, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

As for Middleton, the win was the 12th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games.

On Middleton's side, Megan Button spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. Button has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Danica Nolte was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Hailey Stroede, who went 4-for-5 with two RBI and one run.

Looking ahead, Vel Phillips Memorial will venture away from home to take on Sun Prairie West at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Middleton, they will welcome Franklin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
