Baseball Recap: Holdingford Victorious

Holdingford took a seven-run loss the last time they faced off against Paynesville, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Huskers won by a run and slipped past the Bulldogs 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Huskers have posted since April 11th.

Jacob Worlie 18 made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, Luke Bieniek was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Chase Lyon was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Holdingford kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.

Holdingford's victory bumped their record up to 12-3. As for Paynesville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Holdingford and Paynesville should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Minnesota Rankings. The Huskers will take on Maple Lake at 4:30 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (43 vs. 277). Meanwhile, Paynesville (ranked 98th) will meet Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City (ranked 242nd) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
