Holgate was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 win over the North Central Eagles. For the Tigers, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 victory the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.
If you add up the scores from across all five sets (110-100) Holgate actually scored fewer points, but in the end it didn't matter. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23, 16-14.
Anna Bower paced Holgate's offense, picking up 14 kills. Bower got some help from Sylee Leaders and her 20 assists. Delaney Meyer controlled things from the service line, finishing with four aces.
With the win, Holgate broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 2-8. As for North Central, their loss dropped their record down to 7-6.
Coincidentally, Holgate and North Central will both be playing Swanton the next time they take the court. The Tigers will host the Bulldogs at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Eagles will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
