Recap: Gibbon Buffaloes vs. Harvard Cardinals
The Gibbon Buffaloes can finally bid farewell to their 26-game losing streak dating back to last season thanks to their game on Tuesday. They came out on top against Harvard by a score of 34-24. Gibbon's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Leading Gibbon to victory were Carla Murillo-Corona and Brooke Sell. Murillo-Corona dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, while Sell dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. The matchup was Murillo-Corona's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Cove Fries, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and five steals.
Despite the defeat, Harvard saw an underclassman step up: Tabi Forney scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Forney scored a full 54.2% of Harvard's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Gibbon's victory ended a 13-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 1-6. As for Harvard, their defeat was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 0-7.
Gibbon will be home for the holidays to greet Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nebraska (Hi-Line [Eustis-Farnam/Elwood] is ranked 276th, while Gibbon is ranked 277th). Harvard will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Red Cloud at 6:15 p.m. on January 5, 2024.
