Football Game Preview: Airport Jets vs. Grosse Ile Red Devils

The Airport Jets will challenge the Grosse Ile Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Airport comes in still looking for their first win of the season.

Airport is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They had to suffer through a 54-24 loss at the hands of St. Mary Catholic Central. While losing is never fun, the Jets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan football rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while the Falcons/Kestrels are ranked 65th).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grosse Ile, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They blew past Milan 30-0 on Friday.

Airport better keep an eye on Tanner Symons. He was instrumental in Grosse Ile's win, rushing for 25 yards and two touchdowns, while also throwing for 169 yards and one TD. Rocco Cappelino made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Grosse Ile didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Milan to a completion percentage of just 42.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Michael Nappa, William Weise, and Cooper Mott, who each logged one passes deflected. Grosse Ile wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 53.8%.

Grosse Ile didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cappelino and Mott. Cappelino got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Airport's loss dropped their record down to 0-5. As for Grosse Ile, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Everything came up roses for Airport against Grosse Ile in their previous meeting back in September of 2024, as the squad secured a 42-6 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was the Red Devils' Mason Crowley, who picked up 152 receiving yards and one score. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be easier for the Jets to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
