Basketball Recap: Brody John's Big Game Can't Quite Lead El Paso over Chapin

El Paso lost against Chapin back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The El Paso Tigers came up short against the Chapin Huskies, falling 77-55. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 514th, while the Huskies are ranked 29th).

El Paso lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brody John, who went 8 of 13 to rack up 20 points and three steals. John continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sebastian Ruvalcaba, who posted 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals.

Even though they lost, El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

El Paso's loss dropped their record down to 17-15. As for Chapin, the victory (which was their 21st in a row) raised their record to 31-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. El Paso will head out to square off against Andress at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. El Paso is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season. As for Chapin, they will challenge Jefferson at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing isn't great for Jefferson: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Chapin has snatched up 22 consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.
