Alcorn Central had lost four straight, but after bumping their record up to 2-5  on Friday that streak is in the rearview. They managed  a  20-14 victory over the Mantachie Mustangs. The game was the first time the Bears have beaten the Mustangs on their field since September 29, 2017.
 Ty Whitten threw for 59 yards  on five of nine attempts.   Wyatt Hardin was his top target, picking up 33 receiving yards.
As for Mantachie, their defeat was  their fourth straight at home, which  dropped their record down to 2-5. Despite 115 more yards than Alcorn Central, the Mustangs couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.
 When it comes to explaining why Mantachie lost, don't look at  Garret Hopkins. Despite the final result, he rushed for 221 yards and a pair of  touchdowns. With that strong performance,  Hopkins is now averaging an impressive 113.9  rushing yards per game.
 Alcorn Central wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next  game,  a  48-0  loss against Mooreville on the 17th. As for Mantachie, they have also already played their next matchup,  a  35-28  defeat against Booneville on the 17th.
