Basketball Recap: Southland Christian Sets Scoring Season-High Against Bridge to Independence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southland Christian). They blew past the Bridge to Independence Wildcats 100-71 on Thursday. The FLAMES have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 17 matchups by 24 points or more this season.

Carlos Escalera Jr. was his usual excellent self, shooting 70% from the field on his way to 33 points in addition to eight boards and six assists. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Ismael Perez, who went 5-for-6 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Bridge to Independence lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Micah Becker, who shot 57% from the field to rack up 22 points and three steals. He has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 18 times he's played. Jaydan Jeantinord was another key player, dropping a double-double with 15 points and ten boards.

Southland Christian is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 28-4 record this season. With the loss, Bridge to Independence broke their nine-game winning streak and moved their record to 21-7.

Southland Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 64-56 defeat against Life Prep on the 28th. As for Bridge to Independence, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, an 83-70 loss against Pathways on the 28th.
