Volleyball Recap: Warren Township Comes Up Short

Warren Township had taken Niles North down for three straight games at home, but that winning streak came to an end on Thursday. The Blue Devils fell 2-0 to the Vikings. The Blue Devils were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vikings earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Warren Township was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Niles North work for it, especially in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 29-27.

Loss or not, Warren Township got some senior leadership from Lily Smekens and Lyla Christensen. Smekens had 11 digs, while Christensen had 18 assists and two aces. Those 11 digs set a new season-high mark for Smekens.

This is the second loss in a row for Warren Township and nudges their season record down to 10-13. As for Niles North, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-11.

Looking ahead, Warren Township will head out to challenge Hersey at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Niles North, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 2-0 victory against Leyden on the 3rd.
