Baseball Recap: Crawfordsville Comes Up Short

Crawfordsville dropped their record down to 3-4-1 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 11-5 to the Harrison Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Athenians have suffered since March 29, 2024.

Mason McCarty was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

As for Harrison, their win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. Considering they have won five matches by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Harrison's side, they got a great performance from Blake Scales as he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. What's more, Scales posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Gonzalez, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Nolan Hodnett also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Looking ahead, Crawfordsville will be playing in front of their home fans against Tri-West Hendricks at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bruins will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Athenians surely won't give up without a fight. As for Harrison, they will head out on the road to take on Mt. Vernon at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Marauders' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Raiders' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
