Volleyball Recap: Suzi Valbuena and Addy Mira Secure Win for St. Joseph Academy

St. Joseph Academy was handed a three-set defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They won by a set and slipped past the Peniel Baptist Academy Warriors 3-2. That's more bragging rights for the Flashes, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

St. Joseph Academy had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 15-25, 21-25, 25-16, 25-17, 15-8.

Leading St. Joseph Academy to victory were Addy Mira and Suzi Valbuena. Mira had 27 digs and four aces, while Valbuena had 19 assists and four digs. Those 19 assists gave Valbuena a new career-high.

They weren't the only good server: St. Joseph Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 14 aces. They are 4-2 when they serve at least ten aces.

St. Joseph Academy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-4. As for Peniel Baptist Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, St. Joseph Academy and Old Plank Christian Academy will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Peniel Baptist Academy, they will challenge Redeemer Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
