Softball Recap: Ottawa Starts Season with Win Against Emporia

Ottawa took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Thursday. Everything went their way against the Emporia Spartans as Ottawa made off with a 10-2 victory. The Cyclones haven't had any issues with the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Abbigail Eversole and Abby Toumberlin did most of the damage at the plate: Eversole went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Toumberlin went 3-for-4 with three RBI and one stolen base. Those three hits gave Toumberlin a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alexis DeVaul, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Ottawa was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .485. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Emporia only posted a batting average of .217.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Ottawa beat Emporia by a score of 5-1 later that day.
