2A District 1 recap October 8, 2013

Newkirk took down Chelsea 40-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

The Tigers led 2A District 1 in scoring this week after putting up 40 points on the Dragons.

William Arndt provided a threat through the air and on the ground as Hennessey bested Chisholm. Arndt's key target this week was Jose Sanchez, who caught 2 passes for 44 yards.

Arndt was the best running back in the league this week. In 26 carries, he ran for 173 yards as the Eagles lost to Alva. Tony Mendoza also contributed to the rushing game with 12 yards on the ground.

The leading receiver in the league this season is Sweet. The Perry star has 12 catches for 182 yards.

Fans will be thrilled by an exciting game in the secondary when the Maroons' Sweet goes up against Hennessey's Sanchez.

One of the league's premier quarterbacks will face off with its top pass rusher when Rick Luetjen's team and Perry face off next week. Dylan Hatchel has thrown for 253 yards and 3 touchdowns this season, while Bo Montez has plagued opposing QBs to the tune of 4.0 sacks.

An important game coming up in 2A District 1 this week will be when Newkirk takes on Tonkawa. As it stands, Bob Underwood's team is in fourth, while the Buccaneers are in first.

Pawnee made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 9,830 from 10,347. The advance stemmed from a 24-6 victory over the Black Bears last week.
