Softball Recap: Russell Has No Trouble Against Lewis County

Russell hadn't done well against Lewis County recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Russell blew past Lewis County 15-6. The Red Devils' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Alexandra McBride spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. Those eight strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.

On the hitting side, Karson Honaker was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Jayla Chalupa was another key player, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4.

Russell was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lewis County only posted a batting average of .241.

The victory got Russell back to even at 2-2. As for Lewis County, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

Coming up, Russell will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Dawson-Bryant at 5:30 p.m. As for Lewis County, a feisty cat fight will be fought as Lewis County Lions take on Fleming County Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Their pitchers better be ready for this one: Fleming County has averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
