Softball Recap: Newfield's Losing Streak Snapped at Five Games

Newfield came into Friday's game having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They put the hurt on the Huntington Blue Devils with a sharp 16-3 victory on Friday. The match marked the Wolverines' most dominant win of the season.

Ashley Hernandez was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over six innings pitched. Hernandez was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Aubrey Firenze and Jamie Byrnes did most of the damage at the plate: Firenze went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles, while Byrnes got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Julia Parisi, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Newfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Newfield's victory bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Huntington, they dropped their record down to 1-12 with the loss, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Newfield will face off against North Babylon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Huntington, they will square off against Commack at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their 16th straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
