Basketball Game Preview: Valdosta Wildcats vs. Lowndes Vikings

The Valdosta Wildcats will take on the Lowndes Vikings at 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valdosta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61 points per game this season.

Valdosta took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Saturday. They walked away with a 57-45 victory over Camden County. Given Valdosta's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 93rd, while Camden County is ranked 257th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Jabarri Williams, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine assists. He has been hot recently, having posted eight or more assists the last three times he's played. Corey Howard was another key player, going 6 for 8 on his way to 13 points and eight rebounds.

Williams wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Valdosta was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Camden County only posted seven assists.

Meanwhile, Lowndes unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 43-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of Colquitt County. The contest marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Valdosta pushed their record up to 10-6 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.9 points per game. As for Lowndes, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.

Everything went Valdosta's way against Lowndes in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as Valdosta made off with a 63-40 victory. Will Valdosta repeat their success, or does Lowndes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
