Preview: Severance Silver Knights vs. Roosevelt Roughriders

Severance is 5-0 against Roosevelt since February of 2021, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Severance Silver Knights will head out on the road to face off against the Roosevelt Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. Severance is coming into the game hot, having won their last 12 games.

Severance scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They took down Thompson Valley 78-63. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.

Severance's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brady Varney led the charge by dropping a double-double on 18 points and 12 rebounds. Varney hasn't dropped below two blocks for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Ewoniuk, who scored 13 points along with four steals.

Roosevelt has not had quite the year their fans were hoping for to this point, but back-to-back wins may be a sign of good things to come. They put the hurt on Northridge with a sharp 58-36 victory on Thursday.

Roosevelt got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Joseph Palma out in front who scored 14 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Palma has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Seppe Salvatore, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 17 rebounds.

Severance pushed their record up to 17-4 with that win, which was their eighth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.1 points per game. As for Roosevelt, their win bumped their record up to 5-16.

Tuesday's game will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Varney and Salvatore. Varney has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 blocks, and 9.5 rebounds. For his part, Salvatore has averaged 18.5 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.2 steals.

Everything came up roses for Severance against Roosevelt in their previous meeting back in January as the squad secured a 65-30 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Severance since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
