Baseball Game Preview: Chariho Chargers vs. East Greenwich Avengers

Chariho is 0-3 against East Greenwich since April of 2022 but things could change on Monday. The Chargers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Avengers at 5:15 p.m. Chariho will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Chariho hadn't beaten Prout on the road since June 5, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Chargers came out on top against the Crusaders by a score of 6-3.

Gavyn Pepler made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Chariho let Adam Carpenter and Rohan Downing run wild. Carpenter went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Downing got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Downing is becoming a predictor of Chariho's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 7-8 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Apice, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, East Greenwich faced Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Sunday. The Avengers took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Knights. The Avengers' defeat signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Chariho's win bumped their record up to 10-8. As for East Greenwich, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 10-8.
