Two dominant backs in Connor Shea and Ean Pringle are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. After both having extra time off, the Seymour Wildcats and the Woodland Regional Hawks will shake off the rust and duke it out at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are still undefeated after nine games, but that won't be the case come Wednesday.
Last Friday, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Seymour made off with a 25-24 win over Waterbury Career Academy.

Seymour's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Anthony Cortello led the charge by rushing for 62 yards and two scores, while also throwing for 154 yards and one touchdown while completing 77.8% of his passes. A healthy portion of Cortello's aerial production (110 yards to be exact) went to Jack Moir, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Seymour was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 274 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 178 rushing yards in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Woodland Regional faced off against Kennedy last Friday. The Hawks blew past the Eagles 48-0. Fans of the Hawks have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.
A big part of Woodland Regional's victory came down to the chemistry between Jack Brunetti and his top target Norman Cook. Brunetti threw for 206 yards and four TDs while completing 81.8% of his passes while Cook gained 98 total yards. Woodland Regional's leading receiver Justin Pringle was Brunetti's top target yet again, picking up 77 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Seymour's record is now 9-0. As for Woodland Regional, their record now sits at an identical 9-0.
Wednesday's game might be decided on the ground. Seymour has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 248.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Woodland Regional struggles in that department as they've been averaging 216.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Wednesday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Seymour took a serious blow against Woodland Regional in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 68-13. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Brunetti, who threw for 254 yards and five TDs while completing 90% of his passes. Now that the Wildcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
