Softball Recap: Stark County Starts Season with Win Against Kewanee

Stark County took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Saturday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Kewanee Boilermakers a 6-0 shutout. For the Rebels, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 win the Boilermakers walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Not much got past Brooklynn Ostrowski, who gave up just six hits to keep Kewanee off the board.

On the hitting side, Kenna Newton and Sophie Finnegan did most of the damage at the plate: Newton went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI, while Finnegan scored a run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Coley Johnston, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Kewanee is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-3.

Coming up, Stark County will challenge Biggsville West Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Kewanee, they will host Rock Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
