Football Recap: Knight Starts Season with Victory at Home

Knight took care of business in their home opener (and then some) on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 54-0 win over the Vasquez Mustangs. Given the Hawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Mustangs are ranked 131st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Desiree Ahumada was a one-woman wrecking crew as she threw for 61 yards and three touchdowns while completing 75% of her passes, and also punched in a pair of scores on the ground. Another player making a difference was Morganne Shelton, who rushed for 48 yards and one TD.

Knight didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. April Carillo led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by herself. Sariyah Hendricks got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Vasquez's loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Knight wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 12-7 victory against West Ranch on the 14th. As for Vasquez, they have also already played their next game, a 12-7 win against Quartz Hill on the 14th.
