Baseball Recap: Foothill Comes Up Short

Foothill and Mater Dei squared off in some playoff action on Friday, but Foothill had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Monarchs by a score of 2-0. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Knights haven't been shut out since back in March.

Gavin Lauridsen spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Foothill saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Evrett Rycroft, who went 2-for-3 with one triple.

The loss snapped Foothill's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 19-12 record. As for Mater Dei, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 18-13.

As of now, neither Foothill nor the Monarchs have any future games scheduled.
