Baseball Game Preview: Purdue Polytechnic Techies vs. Memphis Central Warriors

The Purdue Polytechnic Techies will challenge the Memphis Central Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Purdue Polytechnic had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against Greater Praise Christian Academy by a score of 11-8 on Thursday.

Nevan Jeffers and Ja'Rell Smith were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Jeffers pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Jeffers posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2025. At bat, Jeffers went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple, while Smith went 1-for-3 with one home run.

In other batting news, Jordan Winkler and Jackson Jeffers did most of the damage at the plate: Winkler went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Jackson went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave Jeffers a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Memphis Central waltzed into their contest on Thursday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They walked away with a 7-4 victory over the Wolverines.

The team relied heavily on Jonathan Rudd, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and three runs. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season. Another player making a difference was James Bernard, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
