Baseball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short in High-Profile Game with Liberty

Centennial faced Liberty in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Bulldogs fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 7-5. The Bulldogs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Patriots earlier this season, when they won 7-6.

Jake Turner was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple.

In other batting news, Noa Oyadomari was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Tyler Jackson, who scored a run while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Centennial's defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Liberty, they moved to 14-8 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, Centennial and Liberty will both be playing Birmingham the next time they take the field. The Patriots will host the Patriots at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, while the Bulldogs will host them at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
