Softball Game Preview: Liberty Charter Lions vs. Bonsall Legionnaires

Liberty Charter has gone a perfect 4-0 against Bonsall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Legionnaires at 3:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Liberty Charter comes in on three and Bonsall on four.

Liberty Charter will bounce into Friday's match after beating Bayfront Charter, who they had gone 2-7 against in their nine prior meetings. The Lions walked away with a 7-2 victory over the Sharks on Thursday.

Leah Urias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one triple and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Briza Pelayo, who went 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Angie Carreon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Liberty Charter hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least two batters in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Bonsall made easy work of Ocean View Christian on Thursday and carried off a 14-3 win. Considering the Legionnaires have won nine contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Liberty Charter's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-7. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bonsall, their record now sits at 11-4.

Liberty Charter took their victory against Bonsall in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 26-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
