Basketball Game Preview: St. Johns Country Day Spartans vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

The St. Johns Country Day Spartans and the Lugoff-Elgin Demons will round out the year against one another at at 12:45 p.m. on Friday. St. Johns Country Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season.

St. Johns Country Day is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering St. Augustine just ended the team's six-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 44-37 to the Yellow Jackets. The matchup was a 16-16 toss-up at halftime, but the Spartans couldn't quite close it out.

The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Sophia Mejias, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Proffitt, who posted 14 points along with seven boards and three blocks.

Meanwhile, Lugoff-Elgin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were six points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 43-37 heartbreaker at the hands of Philip Simmons.

Lugoff-Elgin's loss dropped their record down to 4-7. As for St. Johns Country Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-2.
