Football Recap: Mazama Drops Highest Score of Season Against Ashland

Mazama extended their losing streak to seven on Friday, dropping them down to 1-7. They took a hard 63-44 fall against the Ashland Grizzlies. On the bright side, the 44- point effort marked the Vikings' highest-scoring contest to date.

Mazama's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brody Mahon, who rushed for 151 yards and three scores. Mahon was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 60 yards. Rison McDonald also helped out with an impressive 107 receiving yards.

As for Ashland, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-5. Considering their offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Ashland's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Colton Hernandez, who threw for 420 yards and six TDs while completing 76.2% of his passes. Hernandez's passing game has become a key predictor of the Grizzlies' success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 0-4 otherwise. Cole Iwamoto was another key player, gaining 195 total yards and four touchdowns.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mazama will welcome Henley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Vikings' defense better be ready for this one: the Hornets have averaged an impressive 38.9 points per game this season. As for Ashland, they will host Hidden Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
