Basketball Recap: Avery County Piles Up the Points Against Mitchell

Mitchell typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Avery County proved too difficult a challenge. They took their match with ease, bagging a 60-28 victory over the Mitchell Mountaineers. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 games by 24 points or more this season.

Leading Avery County to victory were Maddy Barrett and Caroline Hollifield. Barrett went 7-for-13 on her way to 16 points in addition to five boards and three steals, while Hollifield went 7-for-11 to rack up 16 points and three steals. Barrett has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Hallie Johnson, who posted 12 points.

Avery County pushed their record up to 19-6 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.6 points over those games. As for Mitchell, their loss dropped their record down to 16-8.

Coming up, Avery County will take on Mountain Heritage at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Mountain Heritage will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Avery County surely won't give up without a fight. Mitchell does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
