Softball Game Preview: Cardinal Mooney Cardinals vs. John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles

Cardinal Mooney is on a five-game streak of home losses dating back to last season, and John F. Kennedy Catholic an 11-game streak of away losses also dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Monday. The Cardinal Mooney Cardinals will look to defend their home field against the John F. Kennedy Catholic Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Cardinal Mooney has given up an average of 13.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Cardinal Mooney is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 15 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Ursuline on Wednesday. They came up short against the Fighting Irish, falling 19-1. The game marked the Cardinals' lowest-scoring match so far this season.

Meanwhile, John F. Kennedy Catholic hadn't done well against Lake Center Christian recently (they were 0-6 in their previous six matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Eagles skirted past the Tiger 12-10. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

Kylee Marlatt made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over seven innings while giving up six earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Samiya Currie was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. Jasmine Ridley was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Cardinal Mooney's defeat dropped their record down to 2-5. As for John F. Kennedy Catholic, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.
