Softball Recap: Lathrop Malemutes vs. Colony Knights
Lathrop had lost five straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 1-7 to make it six. They lost 16-7 to the Colony Knights. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Knights this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 16-5 on Saturday.
Kaylee Himes made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Quinnlyn Samson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
As for Colony, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 22-5-1. Considering they have won 16 matchups by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
On Colony's side, Emma Minnick made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. Minnick has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Alexis Congdon was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Alesha Crowther was another key player, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Lathrop will venture away from home to challenge North Pole on Tuesday. The Malemutes are facing the Patriots at the right time seeing as the Patriots are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Colony, they will welcome Palmer at 5:30 p.m. on the 12th.
