Softball Recap: Hanover Central Drops Season-High Score on Kouts

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hanover Central). They put the hurt on the Kouts Mustangs & Fillies with a sharp 18-3 victory on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Wildcats considering their one-run performance the match before.

Claire Edgerton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on four hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Hanover Central let Adeline McMahon and Sienna Stilley run wild. McMahon got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Stilley went 1-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Stilley a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Abbie Casten, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.

Hanover Central hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are 7-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Hanover Central pushed their record up to 11-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.3 runs over those games. As for Kouts, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hanover Central will venture away from home to square off against Kankakee Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Kougars have averaged an impressive 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Kouts, they will head out to face off against Hebron at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
