Softball Recap: Clintonville Comes Up Short

Clintonville extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-9 in the process. They came up short against the Freedom Irish, falling 10-0. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Irish this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 back in April.

As for Freedom, their win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games.

For Freedom's part, Kailey Stordeur was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. Stordeur was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Carrington Klug and Jovie Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Klug went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Smith went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most RBI Klug has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Marlee Smith, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clintonville will head out to challenge Denmark at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Vikings' pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so the Truckers' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Freedom, they will head out on the road to take on Waupaca at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
