Softball Recap: Heritage Christian Continues Home Dominance on Friday

Heritage Christian had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped their record up to 14-5 to make it five. They put the hurt on the Maranatha Minutemen with a sharp 15-4 victory. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won ten matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Summer Hill was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits. Hill was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Aubrey Akins and Soraya Chavez did most of the damage at the plate: Akins got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double, while Chavez went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double. Those five RBI gave Chavez a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Tatum Tassio, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Heritage Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .353 or higher in three consecutive contests.

As for Maranatha, they are on an 11-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-15. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly 11 runs.

On Maranatha's side, they saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bentley Shupper, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that Shupper has brought in this season.

Heritage Christian and Maranatha could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Warriors (ranked 240th) will meet Whittier Christian (ranked 46th) at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Maranatha will face off against Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (996 vs. 147).
