Football Recap: Lee Academy Finds Playoff Glory Versus Winona Christian

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lee Academy had no problem doing just that on Friday. They came out on top against the Winona Christian Stars by a score of 30-23. The win was familiar territory for the Colts, who have now won three games in a row.

Desi Monix continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 221 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.2 yards per carry. Monix is crushing it when it comes to rushing yards: he's rushed for at least 115 every time he's taken the field this season.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lee Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 173 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

When it comes to explaining why Winona Christian lost, don't look at Will Irwin. Despite the final result, he rushed for 114 yards and two TDs. The team also got some help courtesy of Zack Bledsoe, who threw for 181 yards and one touchdown while completing 94.1% of his passes.

Lee Academy's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Winona Christian, with the loss, they broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-3.

Coming up, Lee Academy will challenge Centreville Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Colts will need to watch out since the Tigers have now posted at least 31 points in their last nine contests. Winona Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
