Basketball Recap: Saturday's Defeat Ends Smithville's Winning Streak

It was fun while it lasted, but Smithville's undefeated season came to an end after 11 games on Saturday. They took a 47-34 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Rootstown Rovers. The loss put an end to the Smithies' undefeated start to the season.

Colbie Curall was her usual excellent self, putting up 15 points and six rebounds for Rootstown. Another player making a difference was Nadia Lough, who posted five points and six rebounds.

Having lost for the first time this season, Smithville fell to 11-1. As for Rootstown, their win was their 21st straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-1.

Smithville and Rootstown should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. Smithville (ranked 51st) will meet Mansfield Senior (ranked 560th) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, Rootstown (ranked 64th) will meet Aquinas (ranked 483rd) at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
