Preview: Hawthorne Hornets vs. Blountstown Tigers
The Hawthorne Hornets will be playing at home against the Blountstown Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hawthorne is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling.
With a playoff game on the line, Hawthorne rose to the challenge on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 34-16 victory over the Red Devils. Hawthorne's win was all the more impressive since Williston was averaging only 15.58 points allowed on the season.
Hawthorne got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Keenon Johnson out in front who rushed for 160 yards and a touchdown. Johnson is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last six games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cj Ingram, who threw for 201 yards and four touchdowns on only 18 passes.
Meanwhile, Blountstown has more to be thankful for after their match against Port St. Joe on Friday. Blountstown managed a 14-10 victory over Port St. Joe. The win made it back-to-back wins for Blountstown.
Amarion Hover was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns.
Hawthorne pushed their record up to 11-0 with that victory, which was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 24.78 points. As for Blountstown, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Hawthorne against Blountstown in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the squad secured a 28-0 win. Will Hawthorne repeat their success, or does Blountstown have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
