Football Recap: Skyline - Gila River Takes a Loss

Skyline - Gila River extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-4. They were outmatched by the Berean Academy Eagles and fell 53-14. Skyline - Gila River was not able to make up for their defeat to Berean Academy from their previous meeting back in October of 2023.

As for Berean Academy, they pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. Considering they have won four matchups by more than 27 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Berean Academy found their leader in sophomore PRESTON SCHERRER, who threw for 122 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 55 yards and one score. JOHNNY TORRES was another key player, rushing for 93 yards and one touchdown on only nine carries.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyline - Gila River will venture away from home to take on Paradise Valley Christian Prep at 7:00 p.m. on the 16th. As for Berean Academy, after both having extra time off, they and Ajo will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th.
