Football Preview: Mt. Vernon Wildcats vs. Heritage Hills Patriots
Mt. Vernon hasn't had much luck against Heritage Hills recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Mt. Vernon is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 42 points last Friday, they were much more limited against Southridge on Friday. They took a hard 21-6 fall against the Raiders. The Wildcats were down 21-0 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Meanwhile, Heritage Hills was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 38-34 to Gibson Southern. The game marked the Patriots' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Mt. Vernon will have to keep a close watch on Tyler Ruxer and Peyton Gray, a pair of players who had a big impact on Heritage Hills' prior game. Ruxer picked up 134 receiving yards and one touchdown, while Gray picked up 85 receiving yards and one TD. Gray also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making three total tackles and defending one pass.

Mt. Vernon took a serious blow against Heritage Hills when the teams last played back in October of 2024, falling 55-6. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Wildcats were down 34-6.
