Basketball Recap: Mt. Vernon Skates Past Decatur Central with Ease

Mt. Vernon had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 29 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Decatur Central Hawks, posting a 66-32 victory. Given the Marauders' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while the Hawks are ranked 218th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mt. Vernon got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Zoey Wood out in front who went 6 for 13 on her way to 15 points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaya Baxter, who went 7 for 12 on her way to 21 points.

Mt. Vernon pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.3 points per game. As for Decatur Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Vernon will welcome Warren Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Warren Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Decatur Central, they will face off against Martinsville at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
