Baseball Game Preview: Boothbay Seahawks vs. Richmond Bobcats

The Boothbay Seahawks will challenge the Richmond Bobcats on Saturday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Boothbay is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out Buckfield 6-5.

Liam Jacobs made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Boothbay is 5-1 when Jacobs allows one or fewer hits, but 3-8 otherwise. Jacobs was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddox Cusumano, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. He has become a key player for Boothbay: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 5-9 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Les White, who went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Meanwhile, Richmond strolled into their game on Thursday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They never let Searsport get on the board and left with a 17-0 victory. The Bobcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 games by six runs or more this season.

Boothbay is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games. As for Richmond, their victory bumped their record up to 17-0.
