Basketball Recap: Marion County Comes Up Short

Marion County lost against Canton back in February of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Marion County Mustangs took a 51-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Canton Tigers. While losing is never fun, the Mustangs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri basketball rankings (they are ranked 289th, while the Tigers are ranked 102nd).

Canton's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Preston Brewer, who posted 13 points and six rebounds. Brewer has been hot recently, having also posted two or more blocks the last four times he's played. Kaden Oliver was another key player, almost dropping a double-double with 12 points and nine boards.

Marion County's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Canton, their win was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-5.

Coming up, Marion County will venture away from home to square off against North Shelby at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Canton has already played their next match (against Silex), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
