Football Recap: Bellefonte Starts Season with Win at Home

Bellefonte took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Friday. They slipped by the Tyrone Golden Eagles 21-20. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Leading Bellefonte to victory were Kaven Smith-kirk and Ashten Howell. Smith-kirk rushed for 102 yards and one touchdown on only ten carries, while Howell rushed for 52 yards and one TD. Smith-kirk's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Bellefonte proved: they limited Tyrone to a paltry 2.2 yards per carry. The Raiders' ground attack was stronger, having averaged 4.7.

Although Tyrone took the loss, they still got scores from Caleb Whitby, Mason Emigh, and Ashton Emigh.

Bellefonte wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 35-0 loss against Forest Hills on the 29th. As for Tyrone, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 49-6 win against Westmont Hilltop on the 29th.
