Faribault extended their losing streak to 11 on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 0-11 in the process. They lost 10-4 to the Austin Packers. On the bright side, the four- run effort marked the Falcons' highest-scoring match to date.
As for Austin, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-8. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.
For Austin's part, Kaydence Schaefer was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Schaefer has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.
In other batting news, Alexis Brede was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. Adilynn Cline also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Looking ahead, Faribault will take on Stewartville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last three games the Tigers have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Austin, they will challenge Mankato East at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Packers surely won't give up without a fight.
