Basketball Recap: Laurel Comes Up Short

Laurel had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 10-16 to make it five. They took a 63-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Jones Braves. The Golden Tornadoes were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Braves earlier this season, when they won 48-44.

As for South Jones, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.8 points over those games.

Triston Hawthorne produced another solid performance shooting 63% from the field to rack up 13 points along with five rebounds and five steals. He is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now posted two or more in each of the last 17 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Anquan Jackson, who posted ten points and five boards.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laurel will take on Sumrall at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Tornadoes will be up against the Bobcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 64.54 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for South Jones, they will head out on the road to take on Natchez at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Braves will need to watch out since the Bulldogs have now posted at least 55 points in their last three contests.
