Basketball Recap: Thornwood Comes Up Short

While it was all tied up 26-26 at halftime, Thornwood was not quite Rich Township's equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell to the Rich Township Raptors 61-57. The loss continues a trend for the Thunderbirds in their matchups with the Raptors: they've now lost four in a row.

Despite the defeat, Thornwood saw an underclassman step up: freshman Mekhi Young went 7 for 11 on his way to 17 points and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Young has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Jones, who posted eight points and three steals.

It was another big night for Jamson Coulter, who went 11 of 15 en route to 27 points and three steals for Rich Township. Nyshawn Turner was another key player, putting up six points.

Thornwood's loss dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Rich Township, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season.

Thornwood will be playing in front of their home fans against Kankakee at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Kankakee will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Thornwood surely won't give up without a fight. Rich Township has already played their next contest (against Thornridge), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
